NEW DOUBLE LP
New sealed copy. 2025 reissue on misty green (coke bottle green) coloured vinyl.
Originally released in 1999, the Eyes Wide Shut soundtrack masterfully combines original compositions and carefully selected tracks that elevate the film’s mysterious and suspenseful atmosphere. Chris Isaak’s "Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing" provides a sultry opening, while Jocelyn Pook’s haunting "Masked Ball" became an iconic highlight. Pook’s contributions, rooted in string arrangements and subtle textures, were designed to be almost subliminal, seamlessly blending with the film’s dialogue and mood.
Kubrick’s use of classical pieces—including Shostakovich’s Waltz No. 2, Ligeti’s Musica ricercata, Liszt’s "Nuages Gris," and Mozart’s "Rex tremendae"—adds depth and drama throughout. The soundtrack also includes "Migrations," featuring Tamil singer Manickam Yogeswaran, which replaced an earlier recording following protests over the use of a Hindu scripture.
The use of familiar love songs at Ziegler’s party and Kidman’s contribution of Isaak’s track enrich the film’s themes of desire and betrayal. Blending original and classical pieces, the soundtrack stands as a crucial element of the film’s haunting atmosphere.
