Released on May 2, 1978, You're Gonna Get It! is the second studio album from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, issued by Shelter Records. Originally intended to be titled Terminal Romance, the album built on the raw promise of their debut, offering a tighter, more focused sound while leaning further into Petty’s power pop instincts.
The record climbed to number 23 on the Billboard chart, outperforming its predecessor commercially, though some critics viewed it as a more subdued follow-up. Still, songs like I Need to Know and Listen to Her Heart showcased the band’s knack for lean, punchy songwriting—full of ringing guitars, urgent choruses and just enough defiance.
With art direction by Josh Kosh and a sharp, unified sound, You're Gonna Get It! marked a confident step forward, solidifying Petty’s reputation as a songwriter tuned into classic pop forms without sounding nostalgic or forced.
