Everything Must Go is the ninth and most recent studio album by Steely Dan, released on June 10 2003 by Reprise Records. It followed Two Against Nature and marked the group’s second album after a long studio absence that lasted from 1980 to 2000. The record is the final Steely Dan studio release featuring founding member Walter Becker.
The album continues the band’s late period approach, emphasizing groove focused arrangements, blues influenced structures, and detailed studio performances. Songs such as “Godwhacker,” “Pixeleen,” and “Things I Miss the Most” reflect a looser rhythmic feel compared to earlier releases while maintaining the band’s characteristic lyrical perspective.
Everything Must Go received generally favourable reviews upon release and debuted modestly on the charts, though it did not achieve gold certification in the United States. In later years, Donald Fagen described the album as underrated, while critics have often positioned it as a minor entry within the Steely Dan catalog, in part due to its stylistic restraint and late career context.
