American Pie is the second studio album by Don McLean, released by United Artists Records in October 1971. The folk rock album reached number one on the Billboard 200 and featured the iconic singles "American Pie" and "Vincent." Recorded at The Record Plant in New York City, the album is dedicated to Buddy Holly and was reissued in 1980 without the track "Sister Fatima." It has since been recognized as one of the essential albums to hear, included in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
