So Far, So Good… So What! is the third studio album by Megadeth, released in January 1988 by Capitol Records. It captures the band in a transitional moment, with a new lineup that included guitarist Jeff Young and drummer Chuck Behler, and a sound that pushed further into speed, precision, and technical intensity.
Musically, the album leans heavily on fast tempos, sharp riffing, and complex arrangements, while Dave Mustaine expands the lyrical scope to include themes like nuclear war, censorship, and personal isolation. Tracks such as “Set the World Afire” and “In My Darkest Hour” highlight that balance between aggression and a more grounded, reflective perspective.
Well received at the time, the album helped push Megadeth further into the mainstream, eventually reaching platinum status. While later reassessments have been more mixed, it remains a key release in their catalog, bridging the raw edge of their early work with the more refined sound they would develop in the years that followed.
