Cowboy Junkies – Pale Sun, Crescent Moon (New Vinyl)

$41.95

NEW DOUBLE LP

New sealed copy. 2018 reissue on 180 gram vinyl. Gatefold jacket.

Released in 1993, Pale Sun, Crescent Moon is the fifth studio album from Cowboy Junkies and their final collection of new material for RCA. Written shortly after the Black Eyed Man tour, the record was tracked quickly at Toronto’s Studio 306 over Easter weekend, with touring guitarist Ken Myhr joining the core band and contributing to every track. Richard Bell, known for his work with The Band and Janis Joplin, adds warmth and weight with piano and organ.

The album builds on the band’s signature sound while subtly raising the volume. From the opening power chord to the layered overdubs, the band stretches into rockier territory while keeping their quiet tension intact.

Thematically, the album explores love in its many forms—romantic, mystical, strained, and broken. Songs like “Anniversary Song” and “White Sail” sit beside darker entries like “Seven Years” and “The Post.” “Cold Tea Blues” and “Hard to Explain” shift into the metaphysical and surreal. Margo Timmins described the album’s thread simply: “There is love, and there is all that conspires to steal love away.”

A concise, emotionally layered record, Pale Sun, Crescent Moon remains a standout in the band’s catalog.
