Gish is the debut album by the Smashing Pumpkins, released in 1991 on Caroline Records. Produced by Butch Vig and Billy Corgan, the album introduced the band's distinctive blend of heavy guitar riffs, psychedelic textures, and melodic alternative rock, drawing influence from artists as varied as Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, the Cure, and My Bloody Valentine.

Recorded at Smart Studios in Wisconsin, Gish was an unusually ambitious independent release for its time, with Corgan taking a leading role in both the production and many of the instrumental performances. The album's songs balance moments of intensity and atmosphere, with tracks such as “Rhinoceros”, “Siva”, and “I Am One” hinting at the sound the band would further develop on later releases.

Although it initially made only a modest impact on the charts, Gish earned strong reviews and steadily built an audience through college radio and word of mouth. Its success helped establish the Smashing Pumpkins as one of the most promising alternative rock bands of the early 1990s and laid the groundwork for the breakthrough that would follow with Siamese Dream.
