Hotter Than Hell is the second studio album by Kiss, released on October 22, 1974 by Casablanca Records. Recorded in Los Angeles with producers Kenny Kerner and Richie Wise, the album marked the band’s first time working outside New York, a shift that influenced both its sound and overall feel.

Compared to their debut, the record leans darker, with heavier themes and a murkier production style. Songs like “Parasite,” “Watchin’ You,” and “Goin’ Blind” show a grittier edge, while tracks such as “Let Me Go, Rock ’n’ Roll” remained rooted in the band’s live energy. Despite contributions from guitarist Ace Frehley as a writer, he did not take on lead vocals, leaving duties to Gene Simmons and Peter Criss.

The album did not match the commercial impact of its predecessor at the time, partly due to limited promotion and distribution issues. However, it has since been reassessed as an important early release in the band’s catalog, with several tracks becoming long standing staples of their live shows.
