Virgin Killer is the fourth studio album by Scorpions, released in November 1976. Musically, it marked a key step in the band’s move away from their earlier psychedelic leanings toward a more focused hard rock and early metal sound, with tracks like “Pictured Life” and the title track helping define the direction they would carry into later releases.
The album is often remembered as much for its presentation as its music. Its original cover art sparked immediate controversy and has remained a point of discussion decades later, leading to alternative artwork in several countries and continued debate about its appropriateness.
At the time, the record saw stronger reception in markets like Japan than in the United States, but it has since been reassessed as an important early entry in the band’s catalog. It stands as part of a run of mid 1970s releases that helped establish the Scorpions’ heavier sound and laid the groundwork for their later international success.
