Splendor Solis is the second album by The Tea Party, released in 1993 as their first major label release through EMI Music Canada. The album marked the band’s national breakthrough, reaching number twenty on the Canadian album chart, achieving platinum certification in 1994, and earning a Juno Award nomination for Best Hard Rock Album. The group was also nominated for Best New Group.
Musically, Splendor Solis draws from nineteen seventies rock and blues with touches of psychedelia. The record established key elements of the band’s early sound, including Jeff Martin’s baritone vocals and use of violin bow guitar techniques, notably on “Save Me.” The album’s singles include “The River,” “Save Me,” and “A Certain Slant of Light.”
Splendor Solis is often cited as the release that defined The Tea Party’s emergence within the Canadian rock landscape of the early nineteen nineties.
