Instant Holograms on Metal Film is the eleventh studio album by Stereolab, released on May 23 2025 through Duophonic UHF Disks and Warp Records. It is the group’s first studio album since Not Music in 2010 and follows nearly fifteen years without a full length release of new material.
All thirteen tracks were written by Tim Gane and Lætitia Sadier and recorded with members of the band’s 2025 touring lineup, including Andy Ramsay, Joe Watson, and Xavi Muñoz. The album also features additional contributions from Cooper Crain and Rob Frye, Ben LaMar Gay, Ric Elsworth, Holger Zapf, Marie Merlet, and Molly Hansen Read. The music continues Stereolab’s established blend of motorik rhythms, analog electronics, and melodic pop structures.
The album was announced in April 2025 following a series of promotional releases and was preceded by the single “Aerial Troubles.” Instant Holograms on Metal Film was issued as a double vinyl LP in standard and coloured editions, as well as on compact disc, and is supported by touring across Europe, North America, and the United Kingdom throughout 2025.
