Nostalgia is the tenth studio album by Canadian indie rock band Mother Mother, released on June 6, 2025 by Parlophone and Warner Records as part of the band’s 20th anniversary. According to frontman Ryan Guldemond, the record was guided by the idea of embodying a childlike creativity — a quality he believes often becomes elusive later in life. Each creative choice, he said, was evaluated not by formula but by its emotional impact.
One of the album’s earliest highlights, “Make Believe,” saw Guldemond exploring his personal life-philosophy through themes of “magical thinking, interconnection, cosmic gallivanting.” The track was praised by Melodic Magazine for pushing “boundaries musically and aesthetically,” while Billboard described it as “an energetic ode to fantasy and divinity, with a slightly sinister edge,” fitting for a show like Yellowjackets. Released as the album’s first single, “Make Believe” debuted on the Canada Modern Rock Airplay chart at No. 39 in late March 2025, peaking at No. 13 in early May and remaining on the chart for several weeks.
The album also features “Love to Death,” a song that first leaked online in 2009 and has since become a cult favorite among fans. Another track, “Finger,” has been described by Guldemond as a spiritual sibling to “Verbatim” from their 2007 debut, Touch Up, exploring perceived double standards within broader society.
As Nostalgia continues to be embraced by fans and critics, it stands as a celebration of the band’s two-decade journey, blending past and present in a vivid display of emotional storytelling and sonic experimentation.
