NEW DOUBLE LP

Incubus' fourth studio album, Morning View, was released on October 23, 2001, through Epic and Immortal Records. The album was recorded in Malibu, California, at a house on Morning View Drive, with the band living there during the sessions to create a more natural creative environment. Guitarist Mike Einziger noted the decision "defied every criticism from people at the record label and management" but allowed the band to write and record in an ideal setting. The album marked the band's continued move away from nu metal toward a softer alternative rock sound.

Morning View spawned successful singles including "Wish You Were Here" and "Nice to Know You," both of which gained significant airplay and rotation. The album debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200 with 266,000 copies sold in its first week and achieved double-platinum certification, making it the band's highest-selling album. The closing track "Aqueous Transmission" features Chinese instruments like the pipa and a Japanese-style orchestra, with its final minute consisting of frogs croaking outside the Malibu house.

Critics gave the album generally positive reviews, with a Metacritic score of 62/100. AllMusic awarded it four-and-a-half stars, noting the increased ratio of softer material, while Rolling Stone highlighted the band's "inner little girl" approach that distinguished them from other nu-metal acts. The album was Incubus' last to feature bassist Alex Katunich, who left in 2003. A rerecorded version, Morning View XXIII, was released on May 10, 2024.
