NEW LP
New sealed copy. 2023 limited edition reissue on neon green coloured vinyl.
Released on October 1, 2002, The Young and the Hopeless marked Good Charlotte’s breakthrough, blending polished pop punk with sharp social commentary. Produced by Eric Valentine, the album was recorded at Barefoot Studios in Los Angeles between February and May 2002. Josh Freese of the Vandals contributed as a session drummer before Chris Wilson joined as the band’s full-time percussionist. The Madden brothers wrote most of the material, with additional input from Valentine and Goldfinger’s John Feldmann.
Anchored by its lead single, Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous, the album propelled Good Charlotte into mainstream success, drawing comparisons to Blink-182, Green Day, and MxPx. Subsequent singles—The Anthem, Girls & Boys, Hold On, and the title track—helped the album cross over from modern rock to pop radio. A heavy touring cycle followed, including a support slot for No Doubt, a co-headlining run with New Found Glory on the Honda Civic Tour, and a US arena tour in late 2003.
Despite mixed critical reception, the album became a commercial powerhouse, earning triple platinum certification from the RIAA and charting in multiple countries. It received platinum status in Australia and the UK, and double platinum in Canada. Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous won Best Single at the Kerrang! Awards, while the album landed on best-of lists from Rock Sound and Rolling Stone, later earning the Classic Album Award at the Alternative Press Music Awards.
