On American Heart, his second studio album, Benson Boone pushes beyond the viral success of “Beautiful Things” to present a more expansive and personal body of work. Released in June 2025, the album blends modern pop with retro Americana influences, drawing inspiration from Bruce Springsteen and 1970s radio rock. Written over a focused 17-day stretch with longtime collaborator Jack LaFrantz, the album reflects Boone’s ambition to establish himself as more than a breakout streaming star.
Across ten tracks, Boone balances theatrical pop-rock with moments of sincerity and nostalgia. The lead single “Sorry I’m Here for Someone Else” opens the record with a bittersweet narrative of romantic misalignment. “Mr Electric Blue,” a standout with shades of Electric Light Orchestra, explores father-son dynamics, while “Mystical Magical” leans into quirky, disco-tinged pop, even interpolating the hook from Olivia Newton-John’s “Physical.” Elsewhere, the emotionally direct “Momma Song” offers a heartfelt tribute to Boone’s mother, and the album closes with “Young American Heart,” a dramatic, Springsteen-esque reflection on a near-fatal accident from his youth.
Though reviews have been mixed, critics have generally agreed on Boone’s vocal strength and knack for crafting infectious hooks. Some have questioned the album’s fast production timeline and broad pop sensibilities, while others praise its nostalgic charm and Boone’s flair for the dramatic. Regardless, American Heart marks an ambitious step for an artist still evolving, with enough vocal power and melodic instinct to keep audiences listening.
