NEW LP
New sealed copy. Indie record store exclusive 2025 reissue on eco coloured vinyl.
Big Thief's second studio album, Capacity, was released on June 9, 2017, through Saddle Creek Records. The album was recorded on analog equipment in a farmhouse the band was house-sitting, allowing them to work uninterrupted for a month. The cover artwork features a photograph of vocalist Adrianne Lenker's uncle holding her as a newborn.
Described as tender, evocative indie-folk, the album draws on nature and humanity's brightest and darkest tendencies. Paste Magazine praised Lenker's poetic lyrics about nature delivered with a voice "that ranges from gentle to fierce, always with a mother-like comfort," calling the album "dirty, heartbreaking, trustworthy, gorgeous and armed with a childlike wonder."
Capacity received critical acclaim, earning a Metacritic score of 81/100 indicating "universal acclaim." Pitchfork rated it 8.3/10, while Exclaim! gave it 9/10 and Uncut awarded it 8/10. The album appeared on numerous year-end lists, ranking number 1 on Flood Magazine, number 2 on Spin, and number 3 on NPR's best albums of 2017.
