Bewitched is the second studio album by Icelandic singer-songwriter Laufey, released in September 2023 through AWAL. Centered around themes of romance, friendship, and longing, the album blends jazz pop, traditional pop, and orchestral arrangements while continuing Laufey’s modern interpretation of classic jazz and Great American Songbook influences.
Written primarily with longtime collaborator Spencer Stewart, the album pairs vintage inspired songwriting with contemporary production and features contributions from the Philharmonia Orchestra and producer Dan Wilson. Songs like “From the Start”, “Promise”, “Bewitched”, and “California and Me” helped expand Laufey’s audience internationally, with “From the Start” becoming her first charting single.
Bewitched received widespread critical acclaim for its musicianship, arrangements, and nostalgic but contemporary approach to jazz influenced pop. The album won Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album at the 66th Grammy Awards and was later expanded with the 2024 reissue Bewitched: The Goddess Edition.
