Tall Tales is the debut collaborative album from Thom Yorke and electronic producer Mark Pritchard, released May 9, 2025 via Warp Records. Written and recorded remotely between 2020 and 2024, the project began during the early days of the pandemic, with Yorke reaching out to Pritchard to exchange ideas while in lockdown. Over time, the pair developed a rich and uneasy sonic world—equal parts spacious and claustrophobic—where Yorke’s haunting vocals and synth textures coil around Pritchard’s layered production and shifting rhythms.
Drawing on decades of shared musical instincts, Tall Tales moves fluidly through ambient electronics, fractured trip hop, and ghostly pop songwriting, with critics describing it as a tense, immersive album preoccupied with uncertainty and dread. Yorke described the process as “mental,” while Pritchard emphasized the collaborative nature of the work, noting that Yorke contributed far beyond vocals—editing tracks, adding synth parts, and shaping the arrangements.
The release is accompanied by a full-length film from visual artist Jonathan Zawada, who built a surreal AI-assisted visual world around the music. The film screened globally for one night only and expands on the album’s themes with unsettling, dreamlike imagery. Four singles preceded the release, including “Back in the Game,” “Gangsters,” and “This Conversation Is Missing Your Voice.”
Tall Tales has received widespread acclaim as one of the most compelling and atmospheric projects either artist has been involved in—an album that rewards both close listening and repeated immersion.
