Pieces of You is the debut album by American singer-songwriter Jewel, released in 1995 and produced by Ben Keith. Recorded partly live at San Diego’s Innerchange coffeehouse and partly at Neil Young’s Redwood City studio, it captures the stripped-down sound and confessional lyrics that defined her early performances. Many of the songs were written during her late teens, framed around themes of isolation, empathy, and self-reflection.

The record went largely unnoticed at first, but found its audience two years later when Jewel toured with Bob Dylan. Singles like “Who Will Save Your Soul,” “You Were Meant for Me,” and “Foolish Games” slowly built momentum on radio, pushing the album into the mainstream. Its mix of folk minimalism and plainspoken storytelling stood apart from the era’s more polished pop records.

Eventually certified 12× Platinum, Pieces of You became one of the best-selling debut albums of the decade. While early critical reactions were mixed, it remains notable for its unfiltered performances and direct songwriting, establishing Jewel as one of the more distinctive new voices to emerge from the 1990s singer-songwriter wave.
