Men and Women is the second studio album by Simply Red, released in 1987. The album continued the group’s blend of pop and soul and followed the commercial success of their debut.
Five singles were released from the record. “The Right Thing” reached number eleven on the United Kingdom Singles Chart, followed by “Infidelity,” which peaked at number thirty one. “Maybe Someday” reached number eighty eight, making it the band’s first single not to enter the United Kingdom top seventy five. A cover of Cole Porter’s “Evry Time We Say Goodbye” returned the group to the top twenty, peaking at number eleven. The final single, “I Wont Feel Bad,” reached number sixty eight. The song had originally appeared as the B side to “Holding Back the Years” in 1985 and was included on the album without being rerecorded.
Men and Women reflects Simply Red’s early period and documents the group’s transition into a more established international pop and soul presence during the late nineteen eighties.
