Onion marks a fresh chapter for Hard Life (formerly Easy Life), shaped by personal and legal upheaval that led to a name change, a retreat from the spotlight, and frontman Murray Matravers relocating to Tokyo. There, inspired by both place and emotional reset, he wrote the album in just three weeks. Named after the Tokyo studio where it was made, onion weaves hip hop, alt pop, and left-field hooks across 14 tracks that are raw, melodic, and unusually direct. It moves from the glossy bounce of “OGRE” to the understated ache of “end credits,” all driven by Matravers’ renewed sense of urgency and purpose.
