Inferno is the fifth studio album by Boards of Canada, released in 2026 through Warp Records. Arriving thirteen years after Tomorrow's Harvest, the album expands on the duo's atmospheric electronic sound while incorporating more live instrumentation, including drums and guitar, alongside the layered textures and manipulated voices that have long been central to their music.
Recorded at the duo's Hexagon Sun studio in Scotland, Inferno explores themes of spirituality, faith, technology, and social uncertainty. Across its mix of instrumentals and vocal driven pieces, the album draws on a wide range of sampled voices and religious imagery, creating a darker and more direct atmosphere than much of the group's earlier work.
The album received widespread critical acclaim, with reviewers noting both its long gestation period and its engagement with contemporary anxieties. While retaining the ambient, IDM, and hauntological elements associated with Boards of Canada's catalogue, Inferno was frequently described as one of the duo's most focused and thematically cohesive releases.
