Discovery is Electric Light Orchestra’s 1979 album and one of the band's most commercially successful releases. Written and produced by Jeff Lynne, the record arrived at the height of ELO’s popularity and combined the group’s signature orchestral pop sound with stronger influences from disco and contemporary dance music.

The album produced several major hit singles, including “Shine a Little Love”, “Last Train to London”, “Confusion”, “The Diary of Horace Wimp”, and “Don’t Bring Me Down”, the latter becoming one of ELO’s biggest international hits. Although often associated with the disco era, the album balances dance driven tracks with the melodic pop songwriting and Beatles influenced sensibilities that defined much of the band's work.

Discovery became ELO’s first number one album in the UK and remains one of the key releases in the group's catalogue. Its blend of polished production, memorable hooks, and late 1970s pop influences helped make it one of the band's best selling and most enduring albums.
