Fragile is the fourth studio album by English progressive rock band Yes, released on November 12, 1971, in the UK and January 4, 1972, in the US via Atlantic Records. It marked the debut of keyboardist Rick Wakeman, who replaced Tony Kaye after the band’s tour in support of The Yes Album (1971).

Kaye’s reluctance to embrace electronic keyboards led to his departure, making way for Wakeman’s more expansive approach, incorporating electric piano, organ, Mellotron, and Moog synthesizer. Due to time and budget constraints, Fragile features a mix of full-band compositions and individual solo pieces from each member. The album’s opening track, “Roundabout,” became one of Yes’s signature songs.

The record was also the first to feature cover art by Roger Dean, whose distinctive visual style would become closely associated with the band. While some critics found the solo pieces uneven, Fragile received largely positive reviews and achieved significant commercial success, reaching No. 4 on the US Billboard Top LPs chart and No. 7 in the UK. The Fragile tour saw Yes headline over 100 shows across the UK and US. An edited version of “Roundabout” became a hit single in the US, peaking at No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. Fragile was later certified Platinum in the UK and Double Platinum in the US, selling over two million copies.
