NEW DOUBLE LP
New sealed copy. 2025 reissue.
The Richest Man in Babylon is the third studio album by American electronic duo Thievery Corporation, released on September 30, 2002 in Belgium and October 1, 2002 in the United States via ESL Music. Featuring guests such as Emiliana Torrini, LouLou, Pam Bricker, and Notch, the album blends dub, jazz, reggae, Indian music, dance, and rap, expanding the group's sound with protest music elements. A remix version, Babylon Rewound, was released in 2004.
Critics had mixed reactions. BBC Collective described it as their most cohesive work yet, calling it “Thievery Corporation's finest.” AllMusic’s John Bush noted some weaker production but praised fresh elements and new guest collaborations. Vibe’s Aidin Vaziri commented on the duo’s effective revival of classic sounds.
Commercially, the album peaked at number nine on the Billboard Independent Albums chart and number two on the Dance/Electronic Albums chart, and sold 25,000 copies in its first month in the U.S.
