This edition marks the fifty fifth anniversary of Curtis Mayfield’s self titled debut from 1970. Released on Curtom Records, the album established Mayfield’s direction as a solo artist with material that drew on soul, funk, and socially aware songwriting. It reached the top of the Billboard Soul Chart for five weeks and includes key tracks such as Move On Up and The Makings of You.
For RSD Black Friday, the record has been prepared from the original tapes by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering. It is pressed on one hundred eighty gram vinyl at Fidelity Record Pressing in Oxnard and issued as part of the Rhino Reserve series.
