Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous is the debut studio album by American rapper Big L, released in 1995 through Columbia Records. Recorded primarily at Powerplay Studios in Queens, the album was produced by members of the Diggin’ in the Crates Crew, including Lord Finesse, Buckwild, and Showbiz, along with Craig Boogie.
The record is built around dark, sample based production and Big L’s dense rhyme schemes, punchlines, and aggressive delivery. “Put It On”, “M.V.P.”, “Street Struck”, and “Danger Zone” balance battle rap, street narratives, and more reflective writing, while guest appearances include Killa Cam, later known as Cam’ron, and Jay Z.
Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous reached number 149 on the Billboard 200 and number 22 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart. It was the only studio album released during Big L’s lifetime and became increasingly recognized after his death in 1999.
