Produced by Dave Schiffman, the album followed roughly two years of heavy touring behind the band's debut, a period in which PUP played around 450 shows and developed into a tighter, more confident live unit.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe record channels that experience into loud guitars, gang vocals, and fast, melodic arrangements paired with lyrics about touring, strained relationships, adulthood, and exhaustion. \"If This Tour Doesn't Kill You, I Will\" grew directly from tensions within the band, while \"DVP\" follows a destructive night in Toronto and \"Sleep in the Heat\" was inspired by the death of frontman Stefan Babcock's pet chameleon.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe album title came from a doctor who told Babcock that \"the dream is over\" after diagnosing him with a cyst and hemorrhaging in his vocal cords.
