Its centerpiece recordings include a 12 minute version of Burt Bacharach and Hal David's \"Walk On By\" and an almost 19 minute interpretation of Jimmy Webb's \"By the Time I Get to Phoenix.\" Hayes performed vocals and Hammond organ while directing the tracking band, with additional strings and horns arranged by Johnny Allen.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHot Buttered Soul reached number one on the Billboard R\u0026amp;B chart and number eight on the Billboard 200.
